The surroundings of the cave offer numerous attractions before or after visiting the mysterious underground world.
POSITIVE ENERGY LINE IN FRONT OF VILENICA CAVE
On the meadow in front of the caving society hut, you can admire stones from the Lipica quarry that have cosmograms or kinesiograms carved onto them. They are the work of artist Marko Pogačnik who works with geomancy. These symbols represent the connection between humans and the underground world. The Dragon Line (a positive energy line) also runs past the cave.
JOŽE GUSTINČIČ CAVING SOCIETY HUT
In the mid-1970s, members of the Sežana Caving Society began construction of a building in front of the cave that now serves as the caving society hut, and completed the work in 1975. The hut is open during regular visiting hours. It offers a permanent collection of Karst fossils, interesting items found in the cave and vintage caving equipment, as well as the current photography exhibition. Toilet facilities are accessible from the outside.
MEMORIAL STONE WITH LAUREATES OF THE VILENICA LITERARY AWARD
Starting in 1986, the cave has hosted the central event of the International Literary Festival Vilenica, the presentation of the International Vilenica Literary Award. It is awarded to an author from Central Europe for outstanding achievements in the field of literary creation and essays, and presented by the Slovene Writers’ Association in accordance with the Vilenica statute. The winner is selected by the Vilenica jury, and the formal presentation takes place in the picturesque environment of the karst cave that gave the award its name. In front of the entrance to the cave, you can see a stone monument with the engraved names of all previous laureates of the Vilenica award.
