The Vilenica Cave was formed in the Cretaceous limestones of the Lipica Formation and, due to the flow of the underground river, runs in a north-west to south-east direction. It is developed in a single, sloping tunnel, full of sinuous shapes and undercuts. These accompany us from the very first chamber, and only increase in number and colour as we go deeper. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The tourist history of Vilenica Cave began in late prehistory, as evidenced by findings of Copper Age pottery in the entrance area of the cave. At that time, due to its natural characteristics \u2013 partial enclosure provided shelter from weather and other adversities \u2013 the cave was probably used as a refuge or temporary dwelling. Since only individual artifacts have been found and the cave has not been archaeologically investigated, the purpose of its use during this period is not entirely clear. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
